Hello fellow forum members,
I have hired on as "IT guy" for a small but growing company. The phone System here is a Legend 7.0 outfitted as follows:

Single carrier
Power Supply 391B2
Processor CKE3
012 module - unused
408 GS/LS - 3 incoming lines with the 4th attached to a paging system, most extensions used
408 - most extensions used
016 MLX-U - 6 Extensions used
408 GS/LS - Most extensions used

They have been using this for years with key mode and default programming. Believe it or not, no station or button programming!

I have been attempting to replace the 012 module with a 100D module in order to integrate with an asterisk system. I have been reading up on the rather extensive (and cryptic) manuals I have found online.

After hours, I power down the system, replace the card, and using WinSPM 9, do a board renumber.
The system reboots and the MLX extensions work as well as all incoming lines.

The ATL extensions (a combination of BIS and HFAI) don't work, and I've worked myself blue in the face trying to find out why. I always run out of time / patience and replace the 012 card and restore from backup.
I feel I'm missing something very basic and rudimentary. Any insight for this ol' new guy?

Removing the 012 board and replacing with the 100D made all of the programming on all of the extensions move by 16 logical ID's. It also moved the line programming from the 408's onto the 100D.

The best scenario would to get an expansion carrier and power supply, and add your 100D to the 1st slot of that.

Otherwise, do a Print-ALL of the system, install your 100D, and DEFAULT the system, starting over from scratch. You need to be in Hybrid mode anyway to use the 100D. Use the info from the Print All to rebuild the stations.

Thanks Tommy. I was going to try defaulting the system this weekend anyway. ( Found out how today on this forum :).
I'm planning on setting dialing rules so that certain extensions are pointed through the 100D to the Asterisk server. The 100D won't be used for outside lines. Will this still require hybrid mode?

Well, I gotta take it back, I just checked the documents, and Key mode is supported.
Key Mode:
Routing by dial plan for PRI or T1 data lines is not supported in Key mode.

If you find that you need to pool the T1 trunks, put the system in Hybrid, take the actual lines out of their pool, and assign them to the extensions as "private lines", it will appear as if it were still a key system.

Of course, be sure to back it up to the PC card before you do anything, in case you need to go back and start over.

Before I would say that "Key Mode" is supported, I've got to throw this in:

It would depend on the type of trunks.

If they are loop start then it should work. UNLESS you are trying to use a POOL, then it can't work. (And of course, if you get a bunch of Lines, POOL is the way to go.)

If they are tie or PRI, I don't think it'll work 'cause again, you'd probably be using POOLS.

I also think the "extensions only moved by 12, not 16, unless you know something I don't. But either way, swapping boards around just breeds Headaches and Frustration.

But, in the case of one that's just factory default, I think it would be prudent to do the Remove ALL BOARDS, but them back without the 012 but with the 100D in slot 5 and program by hand.

So, is it a PRI?

I got the system up and running this weekend in hybrid mode with the 100D module in slot 1, and the 3 lines set as personal lines on the extensions to emulate key mode. Hopefully on Monday morning it will appear as though nothing has changed, but I will now have a functioning PRI card to begin integration with my Asterisk Server. Thanks for your help. I'm sure I will have more questions.

Merlinman, I will probably try the slot reorder at a later date when I have another weekend to spend on it. :)
