ATL Composite Control Stock Property

Can anyone tell me how to implement The BackColor stock property for an ATL Composite control. I selected it in the ATL Object Wizard when creating the Composite control but when i test changing the BackColor absolutely nothing happens.

Has anyone else come across this or know the answer to this one? Do i need to perform the back color changing myself?
