Hey guys,

I'm just about ripping my hair out over this damn AIW 9600XT card. Like an ***, I tried to update my drivers and ended up screwing everything up. I've tried using the ATI uninstall utility, Driver Cleaner Pro and RegCleaner. I've also used regedit as well as deleting all related files from C:\WINDOWS, etc... I've used the TweakGuide on this site as well.

For some reason, I can't get rid of the Remote Wonder and DAO from the Add/Remove Programs list. It doesn't even give an option to uninstall.

I think once I do get everything uinstalled, I'll just go back to installing the software that came with the card.

Timeline of what's happened:

1) Everything was working as far as I know except for the TV. It had worked in the past. That's what made me think of installing the updated drivers.

2) Downloaded and installed the latest drivers from This was done after uninstalling ATI software and DAO from the Add/Remove Programs list only.

3) Started getting VPU recovery messages, BSOD (related to ati2dvag), Infinite Loop problems, etc...

4) Removed the new software (or so I thought) but continued getting BSODs related to ati2dvag.

5) Changed the PCI bridge driver as described here: That seemed to fix the problem and I have not changed it back yet. I'm not quite sure what the purpose of this was because I use an AGP card, but I gave it a try and it seems to have worked. No more BSODs.

6) Did a buttload of research on what might be the most stable drivers, but no real luck finding a silver bullet. Tried installing Catalyst 5.11, then MMC 9.08.

7) Catalyst installed fine, but I couldn't get MMC to install correctly. It failed after installing the first of three exe files.

8) Uninstalled again with the utilities and some parts manually. Now I need to get rid of the Remote Wonder and DAO. They don't show up in RegCleaner. I'm going to try and see if unplugging the Remote Wonder from USB helps.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help.

ATI has a utility on their website that claims to remove all ATI software from your PC. I tried it when I had similar issues, but I seem to remember it still left remnants that I had to delete manually. You should be able to prevent Remote Wonder from starting by deleting it from the HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run entries in the registry. The executable file is atirw.exe.

Thanks, Frank.

I already tried using the uninstaller from ATI's Web site and am still having the same issue.

I looked for the atirw.exe file you mentioned, but it wasn't in the registry. I also did a search for the file and nothing came up.

Any other ideas?

Thanks!

I've been through similar events with my 9700. It's been too long to remember what I did, but I can tell you I am running version 9.02 of MMC. I mistakenly let Windows install an 'update' one time. It royally screwed things up. If I HAVE to do an upgrade, I ALWAYS get it from the ATI site.
