Hello,

Recently I installed an ATI Radeon 9000 128mb in my pc.

Since then all my .avi files are playing with choppy or popping sort of noises.

All of them played fine using my old card.

I've updated everything, Video,Audio and xp itself. No change.

Its the same no matter what player I use, wmp,vlc,qcd.....

I read on another forum it might be a problem between the direct x drivers an my soundcard.
Could this just be down to the configuration of my new card?

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks.

Make sure the video card is fully inserted, and there are no problems with it or the sound card in Device Manager.

If ok, then disable/enable different options for the sound card in its software.

If no luck, then reduce the sound card's acceleration.

everything looks ok in device manager.

where should i set the prefs for the sound card? in the software installed with the driver or is there a windows equivalent to the display control panel?

Right click at the wallpaper. Properties. Everything should be there.

Playback shouldn't be a problem with a 9000. What's your OS? I know that Win98/Me doesn't get much priority at ATI.

Is there anything about the AGP settings in your BIOS?

i'm running xp sp2.

its a pci card not agp sadly.

I know where to configere the video card properties, its just the sound card prefs i was wondering about.I know about the sound & audio devices control panel, but thats just generic settings isn't it?

Where can I configure the explicit settings for my soundcard?

Look in Control Panel for an icon for your sound card's software(other than Multimedia).

If none, then look either on the Desktop, in the taskbar at the bottom of the screen, or in Start/Programs('All Programs' for XP) for a shortcut.

If still nothing, then search your hard drive using Explorer for a folder with your sound card's name, and then double click on a .exe file to fire up the software.

WRT the sound card's acceleration, go to Start/Run, type dxdiag, click OK, click Sound, and move the sound acceleration slider a notch or 2 to the left.

If none of those help, then update your DirectX version.
