Ati Radeon 9600 XT 1

HiYa,

A friend has a a7n8x motherboard & just purchaseda ati radeon 9600 xt. He was going to install the card but in the manual it says to make sure the ati graphics accelerator card is correct or it can result in agp memory not being detcted and other problems. He went to the ati radeon site but is very confused if he really needs a newer driver. His question is does anyone have this motherboard & the same ati graphic card and if so has anyone had to download any new drivers for it?

Radeon 9600XT's are fully compatible with the Asus A7N8X series of motherboards.
As with ALL hardware! it is best to have the latest version of the drivers.
The newest driver release is often more stable, gives better performance and addresses reported anomolies from previous version releases.
The manufactures basically constantly develope their drivers (improve them) and the shipped (supplied driver) that comes with the card, could be 2 or 3 versions old.
If you don't feel confident downloading and using the latest (ATI Catalyst) drivers then stick with what you have, it's up to you.
Alternately if you have a main branded card? ie: Gigabyte, Hercules etc then download the drivers from their site.
Just be aware that these drivers may also be a couple of versions old.
The Catalyst drivers from ATI's own website will always be the most up to date version.
Also note* when installing you may get a notification that the driver hasn't past certification, this is not a problem at all, and you can completely trust drivers from big manufactures such as ATI.
