Hi All,I have a ATI 9550 Radeon AGP 256MB,Sometimes playing a game, all of a sudden the screen will go black, and I'll have to reboot. This happen's in 1024x768 or 1280x1024 dosen't really matter.just goes black screen,I have the latest catalyst from ATI for this card. And I've checked for loose connections ect.none found. Is there a setting in the catalyst settings that I may have set wrong?? Please help if you can, driving me nuts.everything seem's to be fine, then all of a sudden click to a black screen?

In situations like this, it would do you good to take your current drive out of the system and set it aside. Then grab a spare hard drive and spend 2-3 hours loading a fresh install of Windows on it. Install/update drivers, install the game, and then see if it continues to happen.

If so, it's probably the card or something within that game that doesn't like a hardware component in your system.

Hi;This is a brand new install of windows xp pro sp2. wondering if there is a setting in the catalyst somewhere,I might have set wrong, the video card is running at AGP 8x smart Gart settings all on.Don't know what else.Maybe try a older video driver?? This is the newest one on there now.

Reset all settings to the default (there should be an option to do this, but if not, you can simply uninstall the video driver and Catalyst software then reinstall them).

You can also try an older driver too.

If you are using an LCD monitor, make sure the refresh rate stays at 60Hz (do not go any higher). If you have a CRT monitor, keep it at 75Hz for now.

Also, is this happening in any other game, or while you're just using Windows without gaming?

Hi.Put the Agp in bios to 4X and everything is ok,everything runs smooth at 1024x768,and some are running smooth at 1280x1024.Whats up with that,it's a cheap ATI 9550 256 AGP I guess thats it.Well I guess it likes 4x in bios, run's great, should it be like this?? Now I remember I had this problem before with this video card. Thanks for all the help.4x in bios and you would never know it? Thanks
