Monitor will display message "ATI MACH64 SGRAM BIOS 3.082" on start up with a blinking cursor below and it remains there.
Mouse and keyboard then are inoperative. It is a Gateway G-6-333c, 196kb ram and 3gb hard drive. Any ideas to resolve this problem will be appreciated.

Is the video an actual video adapter card, or is it built into the motherboard? If it is a card you can remove, replace the card. If not, you might remove the battery on the motherboard (make sure computer is unplugged) for 15 minutes, put it back, and turn the computer back on.

Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.

it sounds as if maybe the BIOS isnt completing the POST (power on self test) perhaps the bios is corrupted? You MIGHT try flashing the bios to a newer (or same) version, but be very careful as this might render the motherboard useless if it fails.

i say this because the video bios usually loads first, then the motherboard bios, then the operating system loads. do you see the gateway logo first, or just only the ati bios message?

The "ATI MACH64 SGRAM BIOS 3.082" comes up first and stays there with a blinking cursor below it...
Any suggestions?
Thanks for the earlier replies...
