I'm hoping someone else here has had the same problem I have. I've searched and found a ton of problems with ATI drivers, but nothing like this:
I've had an ATI 7500 (boxed version with DDR) for over a year now. It installed perfectly and so did the drivers that came on the CD.
Time to update... Every time I downloaded new drivers, the screen would just go black. Everything would load, it would just be black and I couldn't see anything.
OK, so I just went into safe mode and reinstalled my CD drivers.
Now, every single update since the CD has caused my screen to go black. Until one glorious day, I downloaded an update that WORKED! HALLELUJAH!
Now since that working update, every new driver WILL NOT install. They appear to, showing up in the system hardware list and in the "add/remove" programs list. However when I right click the desktop and look at the video properties, no drivers are listed and it uses the default plain VGA driver.
My entire dilemma is posted here:
Everything that people tell me, I've pretty much already have done. Uninstalling, reinstalling in every conceivable combination.
I'm very computer savvy and this is KILLING me!
