Hello Friends,

I just purchased a used ATI 9800 Pro 128MB DDR video card on ebay and I'm having certain graphics issues with it.

I've tried it on two different pc's that I have at home and get pretty much the same results. There's little clitches in regular windows mode, but its when I go 3D in games that the problem gets evident. Its hard to describe exactly what happens so I've included links to pictures so that you may see for yourself.

I'm guessing it was overclocked and it fried the chipset or something of the sort... Anyone have any take on this? Not much can be done to fix this I guess?

Thanks for the help,

XeroVariX

You could try differant drivers and possibly a differant power supply just in case it's under powered but to be honest this does sound typical of an overclocked card.

This a case of return to the manufacturer. The CPU and the 3D engine can write to the mamory, but the display portion can not access properly the memory data. Since all is within the same chip on the radeon board, the chip has to be replaced.

Give a print of these pictures to the dealer when your return the board. They (or the manufacturer, depending on the return policies) will probably give you another board in exchange, and the repair peple will know exactly what the trouble is as per the prints, and as per the serial number from which they will trace the lot numbers of the 3D chip. Chances are that they choose to junk the board instead of repair it, as changing such a chip isn't an easy task, even with the proper equipment.

Thank You Very Much for you replies :)
