Hi
Hoping someone can shed some light on this for me:
Mainboard is ASROCK K7VT2(FSB266) with 1 gig of DDR266 memory. I've just installed an Athlon XP2600+ processor which I believe should run at 2.1 ghz. However, The BIOS detects the processor as either a 2200+ or 2400+, this appears to be purely random. Processor is currently running at 1.9ghz. With mainboard jumper settings at 133mhz with clock multiplier of 16 = 2128ghz. So why the discrepancy? If I try and input manual speeds in the BIOS and remove the jumper, the sytem will not boot.
Cheers

Keith

It could be a flakey mainboard or BIOS. Was the CPU a boxed CPU bought from a reputable reseller? I don't think that there's an issue with remarked/counterfeit CPUs these days, though it seems to me that a bad batch was recently stolen from a plant somewhere...

It would help if you could first establish which of the many XP2.6+ CPU's you have.

The original XP2.6+ was only a 266fsb 256kb L2 Cache CPU but had a clock speed higher than the rest at just over 2.1 (lowest performer)

Then the Thoroughbred B XP2.6+ with a 333fsb but only 256kb L2 Cache at 2083mhz

Then the Thornton XP2.6+, which uses the longer Barton Core but with half the level 2 cache so still 256kb still at 2083mhz I think then finally:

The Latest, and most say the best: Barton XP2.6+ that only runs at 1920mhz but has twice the L2 Cache at 512kb.

Note* The Barton and Thoroughbred XP2.6+ CPU's perform almost identically but the Barton has better O/C potential.

I agree, depending on which version CPU, your motherboard may need flashing but more importantly, if I'm reading you correctly, you have PC2100 DDR266 which is not ideal as the most common XP2.6's are 333 front side bus so require PC2700 DDR333 or faster memory to run to their full potential.

Thanks for the replies guys. Max FSB of my board is 266 so looks like that is causing problems. new board and memory coming up!
Cheers everybody.
