Hi,

I have an Abit motherboard that supports a K7 500-1000mhz.
However, it doesn't support the thunderbird processor.
My understanding is that AMD no longer produces the 'classic' athlon, and I cannot find a Slot A to Socket adapter. What processor can I buy? Will a Duron work?

Thanks,
Mark

Yes it sounds like a Duron or Athlon SOCKET A processor, with a 200 front side bus will work on your board. The old Cartridge Athlons are no longer produced, like the Pentium Slot equivelant they were replaced by the Socket A (Socket 1 Pentium) But unlike the Pentium a Socket to slot converter is not available, as far as I know, for the Athlon. I will revise my Post now I have read meckeards original post properly!!!! You have a SLOT A board???? so a Duron WILL NOT FIT!!!!! you will have to advertise for a second hand Slot A Athlon processor or buy a new board. Sorry I misread your post!! Martin
