ATA2 line level?

Is there a way to trim the line level on an ATA2 connected to a 824/DR5? FAX repair folks are complaining that I'm outta spec. Ideas?

no way to do that ...
but what kinda fax machine is that ..with a wierd spec?
becasue there are 1000s of ATA2s working with fax machines
