Hi, I have just aquired an ATA2 which I would like to connect to my fax machine. I have unplugged the line cord from an existing ext, put this in the back of the ATA and plugged my fax into the 'phone' socket also on the ATA. The thing is.. it wont work! Am i doing something wrong? Do I have to program something? I thought it was plug & play? Please help, its driving me insane! Regards Jason

They are not plug_and_play.
You need to program what lines you want to ring on it, and what lines you want it to call out on.

They program the same way any Nortel phone does. If you are not familiar with that procedure, you may benefit by calling your vendor.

put the fax line into system on a spare line port. Then connect a digital extension to the fax location. Then plug the ata into the digital port. This will convert the port from digital to analog. Then simply assign the fax line to ring on ata dn.

Hi, Thanks for your replies.
How bizzare is this? I have managed to connect the ATA2 ok, but can only get a dial tone whilst the recall button is pressed down. As soon as the recall button is released the phone goes dead? Any ideas what im doing wrong? regards, Jason

Do you know the ext or dn,You must program that ext as assign only one external line, set ring for that line, assign only one intercom line, hed reminder on,full handsfree is off or disabled, handsfree answer is disable, paging disable,
Do programing from 7310,7316 frist then plug in...

There is no "recall" button on the ata. It sounds like you may have connected the line from the ata to the phone port on the fax.

Grab one of your phones from your house and plug it into the phone port on the ata. If you get a dialtone and are able to make calls the ata is working correctly.

Some people are like slinkies...not really good for anything, but seeing one tumble down the stairs makes you smile!

Hi Thanks for your replies. I have just discovered what was wrong. The line cord between the ATA and the telephone was a modem line cord and so the pin connections were incorrect! The ATA came so close to being thrown out the window!! Thanks again, Jason
