I bought a Maxtor drive about a year ago (Model number MX6L040J2, aka D740X). The specs are:

40G
7200RPM
ATA/133
2MB Cache

I am now buying a new motherboard which will support RAID, and I'd like to use this drive along with another one. The new drive I'm looking at is also a Maxtor, and the specs are all the same; 40G, 7200RPM, ATA133 and 2MB cache, but the model number has changed, it is # 6E040L0. I've read that the new drive is thinner than a standard drive, so it seems that there are some differences, even if it is just appearance. I'm wondering if anybody else has used RAID in a configuration like this, or even if someone may know where I could get ahold of another drive exactly like my current one (same model number, etc.) Thanks!

Check the number/size of heads/cylinders/sectors on the two drives. If these are the same then it would be no problem to use them together in a RAID. I have a feeling that they are from a search in Google - just that the 6E040L0 is the "slim" version of the MX6L040J2. If you search Google for either drive you will find a lot of places where you can buy them.

Use pricewatch.com to search for the drive model you need.
After choosing Brands from the left side of the menu...type the model number in the search (the lower one) to single out the drive...
