I'm having trouble programming line privacy on an old AT&T Merlin 1030. The manual says to set the swtich on the phone to p, press a button with a light that you want to program and enter is *72. Sounds simple enough, but it doesn't work.
Make sure the button is NOT USED - before you try to progam it. First label a blank, unused button with lights. Next, slide the t/p switch towards you - down - (you will hear ringing and the intercom and line buttons will light up), touch the unused button to be programmed, dial the feature code (*72), when you are finished, return the T/P button to the center position.
I forgot to mention - if you have your system in "administration" mode - you will not be able to program any button on the main console (usually a BIS-32) until you return the administration/attendant position switch at the system to "attendant".
