Last night I tried to install the AT&T installation package (Internet Dial-up) for a friend on his HP Pavillion 511W computer running Windows XP Home Edition. The CD autoloads and then hangs up. Examining the Task Manager show that the SetUP.exe loaded and started to execute and hung. The program is looking for something. The system hardware seems to be working O.K. and the CD Rom reads other disks fine. Orignally I thought that it was trying to execute a JavaScript, but the Java folder is in the system.

Two copies of the CD act the same. Can anybody shed some light on what is going on or has anybody experienced the same problem? Unfortunately he is W/O a working internet connection as he terminated his old service. His XP is a SP1 level.

Maybe the software is not compatbile with XP home? Try copying the CD to your hard drive and run the software from there. If it still locks up, you have software compatiblity issues... if it fails during the copy, then you'll know it's a CD problem, either the CDs or the CD-ROM itself will need to be tested more to figure out which one is not playing nice.
