I currently have access to a partner 2 system with processor release 4.0.1. What I would like to know is if that unit has voice mail built into it? The other cards in the carrier are just expansion modules for lines and handsets. Any help would be appreciated.

Nope, but you do have "Auto System Answer" which can answer calls after a number of rings, play a 10 second message, and place them on hold, and "Direct eXtension Dial" which will answer calls after a number of rings, play a 20 second message, and allower callers to dial an extension number.

For real voice mail, you need Partner Mail, Partner Mail VS, or Partner Messaging.

Yes, you do have the capability to have asa/dxd on a 4.0.1 system but, to be able to play a message you have to have an asa/dxd pc card installed in the system "Partner ACS ASA/DXD R3.0" usually you can get one for around $125
