We are attempting to place Business Objects 5 on an Oracle data structure that uses asymmetrical (sometimes called "ragged depth") dimensions. The dimension table has only two columns, Parent and Child.

How do I tell Business Objects that this is a drillable dimension when joined to a fact table?

Hi,

The first thing that comes into my head here is to create a number of aliases of your table and arrange them into a snowflake like pattern with child joined to parent as you go up the hierarchy, another solution if you're running on oracle would be to create a view and try the connect by clause. We've had problems with ragged hierarchies before and sometimes they're just not drillable.

If your hierarchical structure is very ragged and has many different levels, e.g. city at level 2, 3, 4 depending on how many stores and organisational units are in each city then it may not be possible at all,

regards

If you have different numbers of levels the alias technique wont work. Look at Ralph Kimball websites and read about helper tables as Bo will not do what you want. Good Luck
