I have recently constructed 2 systems the first a pentium 4 1.6 ghz on an intel board with the 850 archt. that worked fine no probs there. I also constructed another pentium 4 1.5 ghz 400mhz fsb on an asus p4b mb with the 845 archt i used 128 mb pc133 sdram. I have a 300w power supply but I cant get it to post at all. I have connected just the power supply videocard ram and monitor but i turn power on and nothing but fans spinning. The video card is compatible same one used in other system the ram is correct pc133 sdram (tried in all 3 dimm slots) It is a jumper free board I even tried to set the jumpers manually but no help there. I get no beeps or anything what am I doing wrong I have put several systems togather this is the first prob I have had.
Any suggestions would be helpful thnx.

Power Supply.

Is it a HI-QUALITY......... Pentium 4 rated P/S ?
(or, is this some regular - read cheap, ATX)

Is there a P4 wire / connector on that P/S for the P4 board ? (or does that board even have that ?)

Also,,,,,, I have bought new CPU's that are dead,,, about 2 out of 600,,,,,,,,,
and even ASUS boards are not perfect. I took a brand new one back (out of my own computer) on Monday.

*** It looks like the jumpers where set wrong at the factory (and I trusted ASUS to set all the jumpers at DEFAULT, but they were NOT). The board worked for 22-hours and then,,,,,, died!

> Check the jumpers very carefully. I don't know that board, and I'm not going to download and read the manual (sorry for being lazy :) for this project because it probably wouldn't help me anyway.

The odds are that the CPU & mainboard are good,,,,, but what about that P/S.
Is it the same as the other system ? If so, then you will just have to recheck everything......

* I recently built a system and NO post. Darn! I rechecked everything,,,,,, and I had hooked up the Power LED backwards. Green was on Ground..... it wouldn't boot. Darn, it usually doesn't matter, the light just will not work, but in this case the system would not boot. Switch the LED around, system ran.
Details........

Good Luck.

RAM would not cause this,,,, because your not even getting a post.

I made a PC with an ASUS P4T and got the same problem

Check your memory!

1) make sure that ALL slots are filled - if you only have 2 memory modules make sure to use the CRIMMS they provide to fill up all 4 slots(if you only have 1 memory module you need to buy another one that is exactly the same)

2) make sure that both banks have the same configuration
(ie: BANK1 = 1 CRIMM + 1 RIMM and BANK2 = 1 CRIMM + 1 RIMM)

this should do it for you

When I built my P4, the first time it booted, then it didn't boot, then it didn't boot for a whole day. I couldn't figure out the problem. I let it sit till morning, and then pressed the switch... and BOOM it worked! Reason was : I took out all of the power/reset/speaker/led cables and just made sure that the power was the only one in and then it worked fine.

Good Luck
