I have had my computer updated and have an Asus FM252A 75 Pro 4 motherboard installed. I have tried to contact Asus about a problem but have not had a reply to my email nor can I get through to any technical support. I am in the UK. The following is the content of the email.
My computer has just been updated to your motherboard ASRock FM24 75 Pro4. I run XP Professional OS.
When loading some software the Master Boot Record was corrupted. The computer was setup that on booting it looked at the DVD/CD drive first then the hard drive. With the corrupted hard drive the computer only booted to the Asus logo that showed the F keys. At this point the computer froze and none of the F keys would work.
I disconnected the hard drive and was able to enter the bios but when reconnecting the hard drive I was again locked out. On the older Asus motherboard the failure of the hard drive did not stop me from entering the bios allowing me to make sure it looked for the DVD/CD first.
I told my computer builder the problem I was having. He informed me that the new motherboards were now so sophisticated they checked the hard drive while checking and loading the keyboard and mouse etc. and if it found a fault on the hard drive it could freeze the boot-up.
I do not understand why the old boards only checked memory, keyboard and mice before finding the OS hard drive and yet the new boards check everything before loading the OS. Surely if the DVD/CD drive is the first to be looked at then I should be able to press F2 and enter the bios? I needed to load the XP disc to mend the Master Boot Record but could not.
I would be grateful for any advice you can give me.
