Hi all,

i'm having problems getting my spanking new kit to start up properly. The kit is as follows:

- asus a7m266-D mobo
- enermax 431w PSU
- amd 1600+ MP
- cmaster HHC001

Once i'd stuck all the pieces together and turned it one, it seemed to start the fans for about one second, then stopped. Lookign at the light on the mobo, i could see it was getting power by the green light, but nothing else happened. After removing piece by piece the various sound/graphics cards etc it still only came on for a second then goes quiet.

Has anyone got any idea what could be causing this? i've remived all cards/wires apart from the power leads to the mobo, but to no avail. Could it be the psu at all? i know that that the assus board likes a minimum of 400w put my psu is over this.

thanks in advance for any help

Sounds to me like you are shorting somewhere. What I usually do is first set up the motherboard with processor, ram and vid card outside the case (usually placing it on an phone book or the piece of cardboard that comes in the MotherBoard' box, hook up the power and try it. That way there is no change of it shorting off the case. If the computer still shorts out when it has no contact with the case, then I'd try having a professional take a look at it. Sounds like a defective motherboard.

Are the poles in the case set up correctly or is there one that touches the motherboard where there is no screw hole? If every pole matches a screw hole then I'd pick up some washers. It's possible that a circuit was placed too close to the hole.

Also I banged my head on the wall a few times after finding power button cable was tucked up into a corner of the case out of site causing one machine to short out...
