Hi all
I have an Asus Laptop. The USB ports stopped working I went into the device manager and it showed USB controller not working so I did a virus check then I replaced / updated the drivers after removing the driver. No go so I was suspicious of a virus so I reinstalled the OS WIN7 still no good. I thought hmm blown the USB fuse so probably new motherboard. Just out of interest I loaded Linux to ram and amazing USB worked fine. Any ideas before I have to chuck the ol laptop? Hmmmm

Chris

Why would you chuck it, since Linux just proved there is no hardware errors, you need to figure out the USB driver issue. What is the model number see if we can find some answers for you.

Hi
Yup I don't really want to heave it but I have reinstalled from the image on the factory partition without success. However I am the optimist (not eternal haha) the model num is an x42n series. Btw thnx for the offer..
Chris

Well, let's see, there is a guide for USB issues, at asus here.

What about going into device manager? anything with a yellow question mark? or Red X?

Hi again thnks guys for your advice strangest thing happened I booted the laptop and voila there r two out of three USB going I'm a little shocked I must of updated the drivers and not rebooted last time shows frustration and fatigue is dangerous. But thnks for your advice.
Chris

Wondering if it will last or the USB controller is starting to go. Time will tell.
