asus cuv4x-e and zip drive issue

I have a cuv4x-e mb and a NEC 100mb internal drive connected as a slave IDE. It will not copy files to my zip drive. when it does copy it is very slow and then times out. it tries and the lights come on and then it locks up the PC. I am running win 2000 and a p3 1000 mhz chip.

any thoughts?

What is the Zip drive slave to, the hard drive or the CD drive? It's always better to put CD and Zip drives on the Secondary IDE channel as they do not run faster than UDMA33 while the hard drive on the Primary channel may be UDMA66 or 100.
