Hello. I just bought an a7a266 board and an Athlon 1333 processor. I can't get the system to boot correctly. It boots, but no beeps and no video. I am pretty sure the chip is compatible and also unhooked IDE 1, 2, removed modem, etc. I am fairly certain it is the board as I get no beeps. Does anyone have any suggestions? Jumpers are all at default and dip switches off. Thanks for any support.

I had similair exp. It turned out to be the CPU. Best bet is to get an RMA and send all components back for testing.

Before returning your parts try reseating your memory and check all jumpers and dip switches. I would verify that your current BIOS will indeed support your chip (kinda critical). Also you may try a different video card, if the one you are using is AGP try a PCI or vise versa. When you say the PC "boots" what do yo mean? Sounds like a configuration or seating problem to me. Double check everything before you send your parts back. Best of Luck

cocoa2424,

to answer someone else's question before I ask my own, the manual for that mobo lists it handls up to 1.2+ghz...

You list that it boots but no vid & no error beeps. If you have no errors & no vid, how do you know it is booting? What I means is basically, can you explain what you mean when you say it boots? have you been able to get into bios and set the cpu configuration? If you have, can you set the cpu a bit slower than 1.33? Are you getting vid during post, but nothing after? You also listed that you removed several devices (mdm & hdd) I'd recommend you strip it down to mobo, vid card, cpu, mem & pwr supply. If you get reliable post at that point, start adding parts till you lose vid. after that, it's a simple matter of fixing that single part.
Good Luck. hg

Thanks Hugo, but it does say it handles 1.2 and higher. It also says it handles the 1600+ and 1800+, so I don't think that's the issue. The p/s, hs fan and hdd all are active which is why I say it boots. I have removed all devices except essentials. I have tried everything but a PCI video card, but since I get no beeps I am not so sure I think it's the video card.
