Event viewer has recently been giving me a warning that our Exchange Server (Exch. 5.0 with all Service Packs) has exceeded the permitted number of associations, something on the order of 2800, with event id 57. When I read the documents on the MS Support site, it says that this arises in a multi server environment when too many associations are set between two Exchange servers. Problem is that we're a single server site. I read further and was going to try to go into the MTA configuration but when I go into Exchange Administrator I see no MTA folder. Anyone have an idea what's going on and how I can resolve it while it's still just a warning message and not a crash?
Thanks.

Are your services all running correctly and using usernames that have the right perms?

Have you run Exch optimiser recently? Changed disks or configuration?
