Question:
How would I associate the output of the EMC 'inq' command output on an EMC Sym from an AIX box to the logical volume management (hdisks, volume groups, logical volumes, filesytems) on that box?

For instance, a subset of inq output:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
DEVICE :VEND :pROD :REV :SER NUM :CAP(kb)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
/dev/rhdiskpower0 :EMC :SYMMETRIX :5567 :87015300 : 2880
/dev/rhdiskpower1 :EMC :SYMMETRIX :5567 :8704B300 :8838720
/dev/rhdiskpower2 :EMC :SYMMETRIX :5567 :8704C300 :8838720
/dev/rhdiskpower3 :EMC :SYMMETRIX :5567 :8704D300 :8838720
...

I need to associated what logical volumes (filesystems) are on each of those listed above.

Any ideas on how I could do so?

Thanks

Taking the 2nd line of the inq output:

/dev/rhdiskpower1 :EMC :SYMMETRIX :5567 :8704B300 :8838720

1. /dev/rhdiskpower1 is the AIX volume with powerpath
2. 8704B300 is the device serial number
3. 8838720 size in KB (nothing to say)

now:

1. in order to know what devices are in the device /dev/hdiskpower1 issue:

powermt display dev=hdiskpower1

this command will show you the hdisks that conform the hdiskpower, example (depending on the Nº of channels to the LUN):
hdisk10
hdisk14

2. The serial number is conformed with the serial number of the symmetrix, the device and the channel:

87 04B 300

87: last 2 digits of symm serial number
04B: symmetrix device
300: channel: FA-15A port A

If my memory is good, you could issue the lsvg and get the propierties of each VG in order to know what hdispowerX conform th VGs.

Hope this helps you.
