Hi,
I need some assistance in the output of the MONITOR tool. We are having some problems with memory.

Short introduction:
AIX 4.3.3
2 Partitions of Domino R5.06a
Intelliwatch
Tivoli
Real memory = 4GB
Paging Space = 5GB
CPU's = 4

Output of MONITOR for memory

Memory Real Virtual
free 0 MB 1446 MB
procs 1952 MB 3577 MB
files 2142 MB
total 4096 MB 5024 MB

When I bring the Domino servers down, it releases almost all procs real and virtual memory, but it does not release the files real memory. Can someone explain what the files memory is and maybe how it can be cleared.

Thanks

Its nothing wrong on it, its an OS policy, but you can change using vmtune.

About the "files" on monitor i can tell that many file I/O operations can lead to situation where very little memory is free. The lack of free memory is caused by that the AIX does not clear memory mapped file pages automatically but only on need.

This situation is normal and dont cause loss of performance.

Files memory is real ram memory used for file access cache, is not a problem, AIX will free it and use it if a program asks for some (computational) memory.
I hope it works...
Unix was made by and for smart people.
