Assigning Transaction Journal Entry Import Entry No

Does anyone know how to make the import automatically select the next journal number? I have the VI job looking at the source journal table and pulling the next journal no. However, if you import a transaction journal and post it, it does not update the source journal table and move the next journal number onto the next number. Does anyone know how to do this without having to look up the next available number each time the import is being done?
