Hi everybody. I'm new to the forum. I've been using InDesign for over 3 years and know my way around it pretty well but am not an expert.

My problem is, I'm laying out an interview for a magazine and I need to make all of the Questions a certain font style and size and all the answers a different font style and size.

When making a paragraph style, I cannot for the life of me figure out how to assign a keyboard shortcut to it. When ever I attempt to type anything in the keyboard shortcut box nothing comes up.

Ideally I would like the paragraph I'm working with to change to the style when I hit the F1 key. I even went to the keyboard shortcut preferences menu and unassigned the F1 key (it was assigned to help)

any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

Keyboard shortcuts for styles are pretty limited. You have to have your NumLock key on and use a number from your 10-key and one or more modifier keys (like Option, Command, etc.). If you're on a laptop that doesn't have an actual 10-key pad, you'll have to add that extra modifier (fn) as well.

For instance, on a regular full keyboard, choose Option, Command, and/or Shift (on a Mac...Alt, Ctrl, Shift on PC), and choose a number off the 10-key with the NumLock keypad. This display will look something like this: Opt+Num 3. To get that shortcut on an iBook, for instance, I had to select the NumLock on key, then choose fn+Option+L (where the 10-key 3 is located on my laptop)...make sense?

If you're using CS2, try using the Quick Apply menu (Command+Return) and type a letter or combination of letters that appear in the style name. For instance, if your style is called Body Text...you could type BT, then hit return and it will be formatted just like that!
