Is there a way to assign a specific color/graphic to a resource that will automatically format the gantt chart bar when the resource is used for a task or subtask?
Thanks all.
(Oh, wait, you probably didn't want to know *if* you could, you probably wanted to know *how* to do it.)
You can't accomplish your goal directly but you can do some things that will get you near to your desired goal.
First, in P98 you cannot format the bar based on the Resource Name.
(I've got P2000+ on a different machine and it isn't available right now so I can't confirm/deny that you can format the bar based on the Resource Name in P2000+ -- but I suspect that you cannot.)
But, even if you can't control the bar format based on the Resource Name, you can control the bar format based on other criteria.
Second, suppose you want to use Red for Rosie's tasks and Green for George's tasks and suppose they are both on the same task. You're out of luck. Depending on how you set things up below you'll see either Red or Green but not both.
Third, (and if you've been here for a while this is old hat) Project is designed to control projects but not make pretty diagrams. Visio is designed to make pretty diagrams but not control Projects. You can guess that I think your request isn't going to *really* help control the project.
You can do this for up to 10 resources.
1. Set up the bar colours.
1a. View Gantt
1b. Format | Bar Styles ...
1c. At the *bottom* of the "Name" column add a row for George:
== Name: George
== Appearance: choose Green and shading as appropriate
== Show For ... Tasks: choose "Flag1"
== Row: 1
== From: Start
== To: Finish
1d. Repeat for Rosie except that you'll have to choose Red and "Flag2".
2. Insert the columns Flag1 and Flag2 in the Gantt chart text columns on the left.
3. Set the flags as appropriate
3a. Autofilter on Resource Names, select George and set Flag1 to true for those tasks.
3b. Autofilter on Resource Names, select Rosie and set Flag2 to true for those tasks.
You're done.
The bars for George's tasks will be green; the bars for Rosie's tasks will be Red and all other tasks will be the standard blue.
(Yes, yes, yes, I know: you can choose a bar shape that uses just the top, middle or bottom. And that will allow you to use pretty colours for multiple resources. Play with those options if you are so inclined.)
You'll have to manually maintain the values of Flag1, Flag2, etc. You could write VBA to go through the project and set the flags depending on the resource names but I think that's beyond your reach for now.
