Hi, I just did a fresh install of Windows XP SP2 on a new drive. My system tells me that this drive is assigned as drive "F". I don't see a drive "C". How can I assign this hard drive as drive "C"?
My guess would be you've done your install with a Zip drive attached, or at least some other drives present other than a basic single hard drive partition and a CD-ROM.
The answer is probably "with a great deal of difficulty". It is not impossible to go through and change every single path set to read "C:" but it's a mammoth task, and hardly worthwhile I'd have thought. If there's going to be a next time install, disconnect other drives and just leave yourself the basic single partition hard drive and the CD-ROM. Add other drives once the installation is complete.
This happens when you install XP on a system that has a multi card reader attached, I found it easier to just disconnect the reader, and instal with just a cdrom, and hdd attached, then after initial windows setup, install the multi-reader. less time consuming.
