I am trying to assign values to text within a report. For example, for every "Yes" response I would like to assign a value of one and for every "No" response a value of zero. I then want to total the number of Yes responses in the footer. I am not sure if I need to set this up in the query or the report.

The field in the table is set up as a text box because there could be other responses then yes or no.

You can do this in the query, but why use 1 for yes. The Access standard for yes is -1. If you use a check box in your underlying record you can then set it to zero for no and -1 for yes, tot them up and multiply the yes total by -1.

Hope this makes sense.
