I am not sure if this is the correct forum so please bear with me.
I remeber using a software package on widows computers that could be run at startup and inventory computer. The "main" comptuer withe the DB would be on any system the agents jsut had to point to them.
This was all freeware.

It could be done in your Server. If you have Windows Server 2003 or Server 2000 or even NT?
There is a list of all items on the network in the Active directory on 2003 and 2000. don't remember in NT nor do I have one to look at.
I have 2003 here now. If an item is running on the network it has to be in the Servers list.
If you have 2003 then open (or have the Administrator do it)
Active Directory Users and Computers
Open the Computers sub item
Right click it then click Export List...
this will save a list in a txt file
I have a test server with one computer here is its text file

Name Type Description
TABLET-ONE Computer ....

Otherwise ???
