Assert Failed: build_smi failed

Dear All,

I have downloaded the IDS 9.4 trial ver. from IIUG. When i install it i get the foll. error on my log, "build_smi" failed. I even tried to manually run the buildsmi.bat script and also ran sysmaster.sql script but nothing worked. My instance is running. There is no sysmaster database, i can created new database. How to rectify this problem, can i continue working on this instance. Please advice. I even tried installating few times and also created few new instances but it dit not work. Details of my error log file is given below. Appreciate ur prompt replay.

Hi,

just take a look in E:\tmp\af.3f79d85. This is the error log and stack trace. maybe it gave more details.
Otherwise try to invoke build_smi as Informix on the prompt so it could build up the sysmaster and sysutils.

sorry I didn't take a look that it was the second post for that thing from you ....
It will be not easy to figure out why your buildsmi fails, because the stack trace shows an error which is mai´nly without any reasons.
It should be possible to get the free installation contract also for that version, The installation support normally do not ask for serial numbers, and you don't need to be a customer.
At my time in CEU-Support we got questions from companies which buys a server with a Informix on it and has no contract forms. And we gave them free installation support as well.

Hi Uwe,

Thanks for your feedback, actually it was a problem with the pc itself. I tried installing IDS on another PC & it worked fine, i could create a new instance and the sysmaster database got created. Though could not figure out where actually the problem was. Thanks once again.
