I have a collegue at work who is experiencing problems with VS. When she trys to run her project (or just contact the localhost) the problems begin. Some pages will load and others don't. I took a look at the task manager and noticed that the aspnet_wp.exe was taking up around 212 MB of memory and 99% of the CPU.

Any ideas what could be causing this and how to fix it?

Add tracing to the pages that are causing the problem - you should be able to see if there are any problems.
