Thanks for looking at this post. It is my first one here on the Tek-Tips forum. I am not a phone guy, but being the engineer at a radio station requires a little bit of knowledge about a lot of tech stuff. So here goes. We have two issues that most likely interconnected. We have an NEC Aspire M system with a Windstream PRI. 16 of the 23 time slots in the PRI are dedicated to providing analog POTS type lines to our radio hybrid phone systems. Then the other 7 time slots are used for business purposes
Problem one, for a while, we have been getting "ghost" rings in our phone hybrid systems (basically they turn phone audio into XLR type professional audio). By ghost rings, I mean the hybrid (a Telos 2x12) thinks it sees a call, but when you answer the phone, no one is there. The Hybrids expect a regular POTS line type connection (the product manuals say a fax quality line). I suspect we're having a small hand shaking problem between the Aspire M and our hybrids that are causing this condition.
Problem two, we just got a new phone hybrid and callers calling in are no problem and we rarely have to call out, but our people cannot initiate calls from the handset. The problems may be linked, although the older hybrids can dial out. I am just reckless enough to change things in the Aspire PCPro software, but I must say that I have very small time windows in order to make changes and test them.
The installer (7 years ago) said that system was programmed to be able to smartly use more or less of the 16 analog lines, temporarily giving the business more useful lines. I have always wondered if that created problems for our inherently "dumb" phone hybrid systems.
Other possible useful information:
The analog ports are numbered 201 through 216.
The analog ports are broken up into extension groups 10 through 16.
3 of the extension groups are setup in hunt groups to provide multiple caller lines to our studios.
Any help with this is much appreciated.
Todd
