I have a web site hosted on a server. I can only administer the site via ftp.

I normally access the internet from a private network that doesn't allow ftp connections to machines outside the network.

I would like to find a tool that allows me to administer my website via http.

I've found a tool that is very close to what I want. Basically it is an asp page that permits me to edit the html files via http, but it crashes when I try to upload save them.

The tool can be found on:

Does anybody know any similar tool? If anybody has had the same problem as me, how did they soved it?

I've used a tool on (free web hosting) that is just what you need - perhaps you can switch hosts? I don't know how good of a host they are, but you can manipulate your pages only via web (no FTP - at least for the free accounts)...

Hi mate,

You never mentioned what languages your server supports, so I'm not sure if it's only ASP.

If you can use Perl, the following script will do the job:

If you don't know any Perl but can use it on your server, don't worry, there is an automated install option and it works great.

Hope this helps

Thanks for your prompt response,

mwolf00, the tool you describe is exactly what I need, but I have already purchased a hosting.

Wullie, the tool you propose needs write permissions, and unfortunately, my hosting provider doesn't allow that (they only allow execution permissions)

By the way, asp, php and perl cgi's are supported. Any idea?

Thanks a lot viol8ion, the tool looks very similar to what I need, but I can't make it work. Looks like my hosting provider doesn't want these type of tools working in their machines.

Both Visual InterDev & FrontPage use HTTP as far as I know.

(InterDev is not cheap...)
