ASP to access Notes R5 DB by ODBC

Trying to pull data to an ASP/SQL7 application from an R5 application dynamically (list of names for instance). I am told that there are several ways to do this, DECS, LEI, LCLSX, LCJava....however the one that appeals to me offhand is ODBC directly to the database.

Does anyone know of any performance issues with doing this... or any tricks, not to mention if you think another method would be preferable.
