GUID (Global Unique Identifier) - in some databases special data type, otherwise fancy cryptic pre-formatted string used for identification purposes (something like primary key).
I'm not sure if all GUIDs are alike, but when Microsoft uses them, it's a 32-character identifier that is auto-generated to ensure that each use is unique in the context where it's used (typically used as key fields / unique identifier fields in databases, but could be used anywhere).
It's hexadecimal, so you have in the neighborhood of 340,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000+ possible combinations.
