Hi everybody?

Maybe some of you bought already some books about ASP.NET.
Could I get some recommandation from you?
What book would you recommend for ASP.NET and why?
I'm a pro in ASP and somewhere between intermediar to pro with VB.

Thanks a lot

Hey man,

well, if you really want to get the full potential from asp.net, you'll probably want to be using visual studio.net to develop (my opinion, please no flames! ;) )

Microsoft Press has some great books like ASP.NET Step By Step, ADO.NET Step By Step, and some VB.NET books. Since you already know what you're doing coding wise, its really just learning the IDE and the new language tweaks.

Wrox books like Intro to ASP.NET using VB.NET are good, but they don't (at least the ones I've seen) deal with vs.net, and are pretty basic compared to the level you want.

Just my thoughts though.

My background is VB and SQL Server, and I'm just now delving into Web development. I'm currently using ASP.NET Unleashed by Stephen Walther (ISBN 0-672-32068-1) to teach myself ASP.NET. Since this is the only ASP.NET book I'm personally familiar with, I can't really say for sure that it's the best bet for your money. But, I do like the book because Walther uses some teaching mechanisms that work for me: repetition for emphasis, short and meaningful code examples, and concise coverage of subjects that doesn't leave me aksing myself, "What the h--- is he talking about?" Btw, this book is targeted at the intermediate to advanced programmer.

I also have VB.NET Unleashed -- not that I'm particularly partial to the Sams Unleashed series, but hey! I got them at a great discount. :) It provides a fairly good introduction to the new VB language; however, the author is an advocate of refactoring, and he spends quite a few pages pushing this XP (extreme programming) idea.
