Hi,

A fairly easy question for someone out there I guess... I get "page not found" or similar error messages whenever I try to access a asp/database page that I've saved in a outside the root of my website (ie a subdirectory).

Can asp files live outside the root?

Cheers

B.M.

Can you provide an example URL perhaps? I may be misunderstanding the question exactly, but I would be inclined to say no - you cannot access any files that you store outside of the root.

For security, often times a web host provider will set up a system DSN and allow you to store your database outside the root, so that nobody would be able to access the actual .mdb file and download your entire database.

If your web server is configured to allow public access only to the files in the root folder via the web browser, then all of your web pages must be in the root folder, or in a folder under the root folder.

Does that help answer your question?
