According to the Norstar Handbook ASMs are not supported for OPX use. What are the concerns? Is it just loop length?

PhM

There are certain FCC and/or DOC regulations (depending on your country) for going OPX ASM doesn't comply. ATA-2 does.

telemarv,

Thanks. But can you describe the technical side? DOC.

PhM

There was a safety concern back in the early days for ATA-2's.
In an OPX environment the loop length of the cable caused a heat buildup in the ATA creating a possible fire hazzard.
These ATA's were identified and a new ATA-2 was released to support OPX.

Aragon,

OK. Thanks understand that one. Spec'd loop length is 4k ft. I've a small overhead system to consider here. Loop length approx 1000ft. Should be ok then. What do you think?

It's an intra property Private Pole system.

Cheers

You could run digital sets at that length if you doubled up on the pairs (max 1500ft). But be sure to use lightning protectors.

telemarv,

Can't do that. Plan is for InnControl systems for later. I'm quite sure this will be fine as long as I've got good gas protection.. not old carbons.

PhM

I have ran opx's off of ASM plenty of times with no problems. Keep your distance reasonable and protect both ends and you should be fine.

oliver60 if you are running opx on asm's you're violating FCC/DOC regs
Telco could shut you/your customer down.
