Hi Guys,

I am having an issue with a 5602 handset. Calls to local numbers through the PRI are fine as well as Internal calls. International Calls via SIP trunks fail, but not also immediately.

Called Canadian Directory Services, works fine. Called Praire Fyre in Canadian, works ok until you select an option and then the call goes silent. Called a UK number, does not work at all. Called a Vonage number and fails sometimes and connects others, When it does connect it is poor quality.

It appears that after the call setup the 5602 handset is trying to negotiate the call down to G729 on the calls that fail. If the call remains at G711 then the call is fine.

I have set the Basestation to G711 Alaw and teh Border Gateway to default to G711 default.

Any suggestions?

This is our first time using these handsets and the last if we cannot resolve the issues.

Many thanks in advance for your assistance.

There is no easy answer as this Sip to SIP can have multiple reasons for going to G729. Likewise there are several options to stop this and force the situation to stay at G711. Let a SIP specialist find out what is the reason for the call to go G729 and take it from there.
Wireshark rules.
