WE are trying to drop some eps equations into our indesign files and the ascii charcetrs are dropping leaving nothing but whitespace. is this a common problenm or what? I dont believe its a font issue as we have the fonts being used in the eps file activated in suitcase?

Yeah, it can be problematical depending on how the original eps was saved - binary or ascii. Sometimes you also run into cross platform problems if the file was created in an OS different from yours.

Couple of things to try: Open in Illustrator and see how it looks. If ok save as eps with fonts embedded and try that. Save as ai and just use that. Or save as pdf and use that.

You can also try just making a pdf from the eps and see how it looks.

If you open in AI and the fonts are editable you can simple select the text and export that. Just use Text as the export format adn choose yur options in the subsequent window.

Forgot something. Make sure you use place, or drag, when placing the eps. Don't copy - paste.
