Quick question...last one for the day!

If I have the Messaging Module of the AA answering the calls and routing...do I have to have an ASA/DXD card in the system at all?

And why the *#&$ did Avaya not allow you to change the IP address of the Messaging Module from the Admin software? The manual says you have to go in through the RS-232 port and I just happen to NOT have the right cords! I could access it fine with the default IP of 10.0.0.42 but found no option to change it using the software.

No, you don't need the ASA/DXD card at all, unless you have lines that you want treated differently (although you have 4 available AA's in the Partner Messaging). It's just a holdover from Partner II's, where the feature was built-in. If someone didn't want to spring for VM (and now you can get the PC Card mail for cheap), you could add back in the ASA/DXD feature.

Never ask why! You'll just drive yourself crazy! Instead, figure out a solution or work around.

There is a modem built into the Messaging module, accessed by dialing **3 at the auto attendant or login prompt. So, if you want to change the IP address, but don't have the 355 adapter, dial in and add some pauses and then **3.

Good luck on your install.

Hi Cubla,
If you were to change the iP address over the network, the connection would drop and you would lose connectivity with it. You would still be logged in, but on a different iP address and you can not log in again. So the comm port is the only way to do this. Same for many other network devices.

The adapter is the standard 355A unit that most of us have (for Magix & Legend). The pinout is posted, use a straight through lan cable.

As for ASA/DXD. What he said (TTT), you do not have one, you are using the autoattendant.
