Hello all,
I have just installed BrightStor ArcServe 9 on two different W2K Servers one is on SP4 and the other is on SP3. I have attempted a simple backup of the local servers this Software is loaded on and am getting some responses while running the Backup Wizard that are contrary to what I and logical thought would expect.
Here are the details of my install and the errors I am getting:
1. 2 different W2K Servers 1-SP3 and 1-SP4
2. HP SureStore DLT Autoloader 718 with 8 tape slots connected on both servers.
3. Default device group (Group0) on 1st server with all 8-tape slots assigned to it.
4. Default Device group (Group0) + Device group (JDE) and (Apps) on 2nd server. Slots 1 thru 4 assigned to Group0, slots 5 thru 8 assigned to JDE and nothing assigned to Apps.
The response I am getting is that there is "No Device group available" on server one and the only device group that shows up on Server2 is the Apps group which has no slots assigned to it so a backup would not work there either. Because as you already know, no slots = no tapes. If I happen to take a slot from one of the other groups on server to and assign it to the Apps group I start to get the same message "No Device Group Available".
I have tried assigning and unassigning the slots in the tape drive in multiple ways and the conclusion I am getting is this. If there are any slots assigned to any group it will not show up in the device group list to be chosen from during the backup operation. If any or all groups do not have a slot assigned they will show up in the device group list but this will not work either because as mentioned earlier no slots = no tapes.
Is there a patch for this problem or have I just done something terribly wrong during the install of these software’s.
Thank you all for your help,
Scott Bonner
