I want to learn macro scripting but i dont know where to start. Maybe a list of all functions and their description and an example is the best way to go though i dont know anyone who can help me. Is there any institute or colleges I can attend to for a proper training around sydney? Thanks...

I mean like an authomated script to go on certain window and do the step by step procedures... I know it can do more than this but the main purpose of it to save time process more paper than doing it manually...

OK, I think I know what you mean.

IBM's Client Access/Client Access Express products offer some of that. It is a Windows-based AS/400 terminal emulation product. I'm sure the terminal emulation products, like Rumba, etc. can provide macro-ing features.

If you use Client Access it creates the key strokes as .mac files in

C:\Program Files\IBM\Client Access\Emulator\private

which you can view and edit using Notepad (or whatever). The syntax isn't too hard to understand.

Description =
[enter]
"strpdm
[field+]
[enter]
"3
[field+]
[enter]
[enter]
[pf5]
[wait app]

is the kind of thing it generates. Reasonably straightforward.

You are correct Pete, I have done some basic writing of this type of script macro but I want to expertise on it. I would love to go on any training technology or school to do this proper training but dont have any idea if it actually offer it here in Sydney Australia. Do you have any idea?

Hi guys

If you don't mind, I would like to ask someting about this.I recorded a macro in order to log onto the system and it works 100% However, there is just one problem and maybe one of you can make a suggestion. I start a session in command prompt and that works good. I then have to log onto the sign on promt provided by client access express before I can run the macro. Now, how do we bypass this or how do we sign onto this in order to carry on with this macro ?

First of all, I would not suggest creating a macro to signon to any system. But too each his own.

Anyway, you might look at your Client Access Operations Navigator connection properties. If your AS/400 password is the same as your network login, you can use the connection password property that allows you to use your network password to connect to the AS/400.

Hi jkoontz

Thanks, I agree that would be the best but, unfortunately I can not use the network id option 'cause I have a profile on AS/400 with special authority to perform certain tasks.

:->

You got me there. I guess you are asking if there is a way to bypass the CAE connection signon dialog box, or possibly deal with it in a Windows batch file.

No offense, but I don't know why the Windows direct-connect method would be problematic when you make your password available through the CAE macro.
