AS400 Open/Close ports in code

Hello,

I have been asked by our network folks if I can write code to open and close a specific TCP/IP port on our AS400. They want the port closed when QINTER goes down for backups and the port opened when it comes back up. They will use What's Up Gold to query the port's status. If the port is still closed at 7:00AM, a message will be sent to a pager.

I am a programmer and know very little about this aspect of the machine.

It looks like we're going to go with ending the FTP service at the start of the backup and restart FTP when it backup is completed. I've made a change to the exit programs and it seems like it will work.

I never did find out if specific ports can be closed/opened.
