I am using Microsoft Visual Foxpro to access data on an IBM iseries AS400. The problem is while I am developing applications in the IDE I make numerous connections to the as400 and today our AS400 administrator said the CPU was at 95% and as soon as I exited out of my IDE the CPU dropped to 60%. How can merely having open connections be taking up CPU time on the AS400? Does anyone have experience in using fat clients like FoxPro, VB, etc to select/update as400 tables vis odbc? One thing we have seen is when an odbc connection is made there are no limits on the queries. Is there a way to from the AS400 side to limit the amount of CPU an odbc connection can have? If not is there a way to do this via the ODBC connection?
