I'm an entry-level Cobol programmer (AS/400). I was thinking of doing some programming on my own time, to learn more (and for fun-how sad) I found a few sites that would allow me to access a server via the net at home. I was wondering if anyone is familiar with any of them? I originally posted this in the Cobol forum, but not much response...Any thoughts?

TIA,
Melissa

Melissa,

There is Texas400.com. I know they do RPG but I am unsure about COBOL.

MdnghtPgmr,
I looked at their site now, but I didn't see anything about being able to obtain space on their server or anything. Only free access for the tutorial......Am I missing something? That is the same site that was recommended earlier, so I'm wondering

Melissa,

This is a quote from their site under the Free access to AS/400 for tutorial.

If you would like to have free access to our AS400, and you are in North America, simply call us at ( 972 ) 221-6645 during business hours.

If you are interested only in viewing the tutorial and reading the information we have made available, just click here and you will be taken to it.

I would assume (and I am assumming) that due to the second line the first line is what you are looking for as far as access.

Let us know what you find out.

We are allowed to take the Operations Navigator and install it on our home machines (so when we are on call, we don't have to come all the way to the courthouse in the middle of the night to restart a printer, we can do it from home!!)

This allows me to 'Display Emulator Session' and sign on to the green screen from home just like I would from my desk.

Perhaps you can talk to your employer about allowing you to connect from home. You could set up your own test library.

HTH
